- Applications open on December 5, 2023, for the $175 Million for the Ohio Brownfield Remediation Program in FY 24.
- This program allocates $1 M per county and a match is required for projects outside of dedicated county set-aside.
- There is a 10% max clean-up award for development costs and a $300,000 max assessment award, and awards can be up to 75% of total project costs.
- Eligible applicants are county land banks or designee by county commissioners if no land bank, and sub-recipients include local governments, non-profit organizations, CIC, MPO, county land banks, and community action agencies.
- The program is designed to clean up Brownfields which are defined as abandoned, idled, or under-used industrial, commercial, or institutional property where expansion or redevelopment is complicated by known or potential releases of hazardous substances or petroleum, contamination at the subsurface level unless remediation is needed for access to subsurface contamination (i.e. building demolition), and building or structure with documented asbestos.
- Eligible costs for the grants include infrastructure costs not to exceed 20% of the total request for water, sewer, electric, gas, engineering controls,
- “No Further Action Letter” or “Covenant Not to Sue” fees not to exceed 10% of the administrative costs, and costs for a certified professional.
- Ineligible costs include application prep, costs prior to grant award, site clearance, and utility delinquent costs.
